SUGGESTED SPECIFICATIONS
DOORS
Doors shall be fabricated from commercial quality cold rolled steel conforming to ASTM A 1008/A 1008M or hot-rolled, pickled and oiled steel conforming
to ASTM A 1011/A 1011M.
Interior door face sheets shall be minimum 0.042 in. thick, (18 ga.), thicker gages as required 0.053 in. (16 ga.) and 0.067 in. (14 ga.)
For exterior application and interior areas subject to corrosive conditions it is recommended that face sheets shall have a zinc coating applied by the
hot-dip process conforming to ASTM A653/A 653M Coating Designation A60 (ZF180).
Door face sheets shall be joined at their vertical edges by a continuous weld extending the full height of the door with no visible seams on their faces
or vertical edges.
Metal moldings shall be provided for glass lites and/or louvers, with metal muntin bars where required.
Door core shall be steel stiffened, honeycomb or polystyrene in accordance with individual job requirements.
FRAMES
Frames shall be fabricated from commercial quality, cold rolled steel conforming to ASTM A 1008/A 1008M or hot-rolled, pickled and oiled steel conforming
to ASTM A 1011/A 1011M.
Frames shall be minimum 0.053 in. thick, (16 ga.), thicker gages as required, 0.067 (14 ga.) or 0.093 in. (12 ga.).
For exterior application and interior areas subject to corrosive conditions it is recommended that the frame shall have a zinc coating applied by the
hot-dip process conforming to ASTM A653/A 653M Coating Designation A60 (ZF180).
Corner joints shall be closed tight and continuously welded, with faces mitered and stops either butted or mitered.
All other joints shall have face only continuously welded and finished smooth.
Frame shall be provided with jamb anchors, floor clips, and mortar protection boxes where necessary. Removable spreaders shall be provided to hold jambs during shipping and handling and are intended to be removed before setting and aligning.
DOORS AND FRAMES
Provision shall be made for hardware with drilling and tapping furnished for fully templated mortised hardware only, in accordance with the final
approved hardware schedule and templates provided by the hardware supplier. Where surface mounted hardware, anchor hinges, thrust pivots, pivot reinforced hinges, or non-templated mortised hardware apply, doors and frames shall be reinforced,
with all drilling and tapping done by others in the field.
Reinforcement for butts shall be minimum 0.167 in. (7ga.) x 1-1/4 in. x 10 in. long, and for surface applied hardware with plates of sufficient size to
provide complete backup for hardware items as required. Hardware reinforcement shall be electrically welded in place.
Before shipment doors and frames are to be thoroughly cleaned and degreased for best paint bond followed by a coat of rust inhibiting primer.
